I was lucky enough to spend my primary school years growing up in Herm, which has given me so many wonderful childhood memories. I’ve always missed the island, so in 2024 I came back to work for a season, and loved it so much that I returned again this year.

Creativity has always been a big part of my life. I’ve been encouraged to make art from a young age, thanks to my mum and aunt, who are both very artistic. Growing up surrounded by their creativity not only gave me access to endless art supplies but also showed me that making art doesn’t have to stop in adulthood. I have since used it to document my travels and paint and draw with much more enjoyment and I feel incredibly lucky to have had such inspiring role models to look towards.

Herm has always been a source of comfort and inspiration for me. Being in the sea is my most favourite place in the world; it’s where I feel like a child again and free to be curious and delight in being held by the water. I’m fascinated by the way light interacts with the water, the ever-changing colors, and the magic of the underwater ecosystem.

 

Recently, I’ve been learning more about seaweed, its many varieties, and its uses, as well as experimenting with underwater photography, both of which I used as photo references for my dolphin design. I was aiming to capture the side of Herm that I most enjoy and most wish everyone could experience; being underwater.
